Friendship upwards and outwards, these all really matter, but one friendship matters most.

Friendship with Jesus matters the most -- it's so foundational.

There's indeed a joyous companionship to be 1st hand experienced and enjoyed. We all need this particular vertical relationship more than any other relationship! Do you daily or ever spend time with Christ out "In The Garden" or where you go?
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses..

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other, has ever, known!
He speaks and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that he gave to me,
Within my heart is ringing..

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other, has ever, known!
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other, has ever, known! ~ C. Austin Miles

In This Lonely Fallen World, I Encourage You To Become A Close Friend Of The Best Of Friends. Sure, And It Can Happen For You Today! You'll Never Regret It Either. Friendships do matter and some more than others. Wisely choose your close friends and limit your time with those friends who start to pull you down. God will show you how much time. Are you a grateful friend who expresses that in worship acceptably (biblically)? Are you a praying and praising type of Christian friend who takes everything to God expecting Him to help you fulfill the ministry He's given you? Being a close friend of Christ is what we together build off of -- is this your top priority, your number one goal in life, just to love and walk with Jesus as Lord? It really needs to be starting today!

Q: Why was Abraham called a friend of God (Isaiah 41:8)?

Yes he was a friend. Abraham was more than an acquaintance of God and more than a companion of His. He was and is actually a friend of God. Tough circumstances can surely test a friendship huh. Do you have a brokenness, a love, a joy, a simple faith, and a real humility about you in the Lord?

Have you had some painful trials that you don’t understand, or are you in one right now? Listen, you and me can go through it all with gentle Jesus leading us. Never trade in what you don’t know for what you do know. What do you know? Do you know Jesus Christ in a personal sort of way? You can right now. We know God is good, He loves you and has a good plan for your life!

I say this.. be delighted with the Lord. During these times when our culture is become very divided, very meanspirited, and very angry at people. Be enthralled in the Lord. With who He is, with what He’s done, with what He is currently doing in the world, and with what He will do in the future. Soon even. Live passionately in God’s Word!

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:4–5 ampc

Three times it happened. Our loving Lord called out to Samuel, and three times Samuel went to Eli the priest not gettin’ it. He was confusing the voice of God with the voice of Eli (vv. 4–9). Then at Eli’s direction, the young boy asked to hear from the Lord the fourth time that the Lord called to him. After that Samuel had a great walk and ministry in this world. If was from God. Do you have a close relationship with God?

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 nkjv

Do you know people who are friends of God? Do you like to hang out with them or hear from them? I often think about Jon Coursen from Applegate. What a wonderful believer. He has suffered a lot before and he still has great joy in Jesus. It wells up and overflows out of him. He’s a friend of God.

I also love to listen to Billy Graham, to my former pastors Chuck Smith and Greg Laurie, to Skip Heitzig, to my current pastor Jack Graham. Like Jon Coursen they all have joy, insight, and humility. Sure, what’s not to love about the simplicity of their gracious lives? They are friends with the Jesus Christ of the Bible.

In March of 1982, Jon’s first bride, Terry, at the young age of 28, was taken home to Heaven. Then twelve years later, Jon’s 16-year-old daughter Jessie was also taken home to Heaven. Ouch! Then after that he lost his dear son Peter-John as well. In a fallen world hard things happen. How can one explain it all? And of course for Jon those were times of serious mourning and grieving, but the Lord was there for him he says. God helped Jon to maintain his spiritual victory and good testimony. How? It was by the powerful living Word. It was by the enabling of the Holy Spirit.

Gettin’ through the trials is not always so easy for anyone, but God’s grace is enough for you and me. He will come through and meet all your needs, believer. He passes up a lot of opportunities to be early but the Lord is never late. Ask, seek, knock. Don’t stop. Just pray without ceasing.

Jon and Tammy Courson, married to Tambo since ‘85

Tambo said, “I’ve found God to be a faithful and loving Father and He has done ABOVE and BEYOND all I could ask or think. Even when I have faced hard or challenging times, He has turned even that into something useful and good the way only HE can.”

What Jon explained to me and some friends: The Lord never puts us through anything that He hasn’t already thoroughly prepared us for, and can’t enable us to properly deal with.

Think about the right priorities as a married or single person. how Abraham (the friend of God) was thoroughly prepared step by step. That happened with Jon and Tammy too.

In Isaiah 41:8, the Lord spoke to Israel, calling them “descendants of Abraham my friend.”

Abraham’s friendship with God was mentioned elsewhere.. where was that? It was spoken of by King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:7 and by the apostle James in James 2:23.

See Isaiah 41:8 in the Bible. It could literally be translated as: “Abraham, who loved Me.” Love is a choice. Abraham showed his love for God through his biblical faith accompanied by obedience (Genesis 12:1, 4; 15:6).

Jesus said: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me.. If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:15–24

This good Friend prepares he buddies for all that they will face in life. He is there for them in their moment of need. I remember when we lost my second son Nathan to Covid. It was painful and hard — it was a horrific year, but Jesus was there for Liney and I. His grace was and is enough.

Jon Coursen was prepared step by step for what he would face, and then the Lord was there for him as well “in an amazing way” Jon said. It’s good to emerge from life’s hardships, tribulations and tragedies with the ultimate Victor at your side.

Are you a chuckling-with-laughter kind of a person like Jon is today? Is your life filled with overflowing JOY (due to having Jesus first, others second, yourself last). As Jon asks, is it a life marked by like that… with LAF?

Love
Acceptance and
Forgiveness

It can be in the Lord. Lots of things and people come and go, but Jesus “has said, ‘I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!’”

Moments and emotions come and go. You know how feelings are fickle, but this vertical intimacy and friendship with God is never to be fickle on either side. He sure won’t ever be when you’re in this relationship with Christ.

We are to cling to Christ and follow Him closely.
What was Abraham’s religion before God called him?
What does it mean to receive Jesus Christ?
How is understanding the life of Abraham valuable to our spiritual growth in this world gone more and more crazy?
What did Jesus mean when He said that he who loves his life will lose it (John 12:25)?
Why should I believe in Christ’s resurrection?
Who was Abraham in the Bible?
What does it mean “to live is Christ” (Philippians 1:21)?
Why did God choose Abraham?
Who were the three men who visited Abraham in Genesis 18?
What does it mean to cling to what is good (Romans 12:9)?
What does God say about me?
A close friendship is to be a reciprocal thing.. its a holy and good relationship between two people who share a bond of mutual affection. Real friends can be described as those who:
– know and understand each other
– like each other
– have shared interests and common goals
– want to spend time together
– help, edify and protect each other, as well as those around them

Jesus has never been fickle or flakey regarding anyone. God has kept all His promises — He always will. Scripture says that “a friend loves at all times” (Proverbs 17:17), yep, even during really bad times.

Abraham’s friendship with God was based on God’s everlasting covenant with Abraham and upon Abraham’s simple faith in accepting it:

“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you”
(
Genesis 12:2–3; cf. Genesis 15:1–21).
As the physical descendants of Abraham, the people of Israel were assured of God’s continued protection. After reminding Israel that their ancestor Abraham was His friend, God said,
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish” (
Isaiah 41:10–11).

So many people are lonely today and many simply aren’t recovering from the tough things of life.. when they actually could. Remember Calvary. Sure, I say get home before dark. Man, what are you waiting for? God wants to warmly welcome and embrace you — His hands were and are lovingly held outstretched for you!

“I have seen the burden that God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot fathom the work that God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and do good while they live..” Ecclesiastes 3:11 #emph.mine
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these thing.” Philippians 4:6–8

Now is good.

“Life is too short not to spend it doing what God wants us to do.” ― Jack Hyles

Jesus asked, “But what about you?.. Who do you say I am?” (Matt. 16:15 niv). Clean yourself up first and then come? No, real bad idea. Just come as you are willing to be changed. Jesus catches his fish and then He cleans them.

“What we do today is more important than what we plan to do in the future.” ― Jack Hyles

Righteously, tactfully, boldly go fishing for people. That is what respectful soul-winning is all about.

We Christians were blessed in order to become a blessing. We were made a disciple to go make disciples.

Every disciple is a believer, but not every believer is necessarily a disciple. Anything short of discipleship, however, is settling for less than what God really desires for us.

Loving God more than anyone or anything else is the very foundation of being a disciple. If you want to live your Christian life to its fullest, then love Jesus more than anyone or anything else. Stay in touch and follow where He leads you. You and I must choose, either you will have harmony with God and friction with people, or you will have harmony with people and friction with God. You become a disciple in the biblical sense only when you are totally and completely committed to Jesus Christ and His Word.

As a true disciple, your life won’t only be characterized by practical results and a hunger for Scripture, but you also will have a love for other people — especially for Christ most, and then a love for fellow believers. Without all of these characteristics, you can’t really claim to be His disciple.

Billy Graham once said, “We are the Bibles the world is reading. We are the creeds the world is needing. We are the sermons the world is heeding.”

- A person who has been with Jesus will pray, will obey, and will go tactfully witness.

Yes, they will live the life and boldly share his or her faith in order to win somebody to Jesus Christ.

“The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.” ― Greg Laurie

- A person who has been with Jesus will change, will grow, will mature. They will be a person of godly character.

- A person who has been with Jesus will be mocked, joked about, and persecuted at times.

Jesus Calls Every Christian To Become A Fisher Of Men (People).

After our personal worship priority (I mean worship that's acceptable/biblical), we want to reach out to fish for people.  The Lord guides each of us in this. (In fact we are committed to this lifestyle, after our commitment to Christ and his five Essentials this tops the list).

HERE’S A PICTURE OF MANY MODERN-DAY CHURCHES AND BELIEVERS.

Now it came to pass that a group existed who called themselves fishermen. And lo, there were many fish in the waters all arounda. In fact, the whole area was surrounded by streams, seas, and lakes filled with fish. And the fish were hungry too!

Week after week, month after month, and year after year, those who called themselves fisherman, gathered in important meetings and talked about their call to fish, the abundance of fish, and how they might go about fishing. Year after year they carefully defined what fishing means, defended fishing as an occupation, and declared that: “Fishing is always to be a primary task of fishermen!”

Continually they searched for new and better methods of fishing and for new and better definitions. Further, they said, "The fishing industry exists by fishing as fire exists by oxygen, fuel, and combustion or burning."

They loved slogans such as "Born to fish," "Fishing is the task of every fisherman," "Fish ’till you drop," "Every fisherman is a true fisher," and "A fisherman department for every fisherman’s club."

Some zealous people really dug in deep to learn more information -- sure cuz study can be good if it doesn't self-terminate there! They were aiming to gain some expertise in all the finer points of effectual-fishin'.

They sponsored special meetings called "Fishermen’s Campaigns" and "The Month For Fishermen To Fish!" They sponsored expensive nationwide and worldwide congresses to discuss all the points of fishing-specificity and to promote simple fishing too. It was a great time to hear all the complex or far from complex plans. What's needed is excellent methods of fishing minus wrong compromise. It was the place to preview all the latest fishing equipment, books, fish calls and to see whether any new bait was discovered

These fishermen built large, beautiful buildings called "Fishing Headquarters." The plea was that everyone should be a fisherman and every fisherman should fish. One thing they didn’t do, however, they didn’t fish.

In addition to meeting regularly, they organized a board to send out fishermen to other places where there were many fish. All the fishermen seemed to agree that what is needed is a humble board which could challenge fishermen to be faithful in fishing. The board was formed by those who had the great vision, or degrees, and courage to speak about fishing.. to define fishing, and to promote the idea of fishing in faraway streams and lakes where many other fish of different colors lived.

Also the board hired grateful staff members and appointed committees and held meetings to define fishing, to defend fishing, and to decide what new streams should be thought about. But the staff and committee members were too busy to fish.

Large elaborate and expensive training centers were built whose original and primary purpose was to teach fishermen how to fish. And these wonderful buildings and their maintenance operations took on the greatest of importance as their leaders wisely prioritized. One craftsman made a beautiful silver plaque for the entry of one such center, with their engraved watchword, "We duplicate what we are! Our constituents will fish like we as leaders fish, more than if we just tell them to go fishing!"

Over the years, specialized courses were offered on the various needs and dependencies of fish, the nature of fish, the politically correct fisher, fish self-esteem, fish as victims, healing the fish we plan to catch, where to find fish, the psychological reactions and phobias of 22nd century fishermen, also how to sensitively approach and feed fish.

Many of those who eloquently taught fishing had earned doctorates in fishology. But the teachers did not fish. They only taught skillful fishing. Some of them, thought of as having fishing expertise, felt that actual fishing with pole or net, was to be left for the few groups of fishing clubs that were so gifted. But year after year, after tedious training, many were graduated and were given fishing licenses. They were sent to do full-time fishing, some to distant waters, which were filled with fish.

Some financed and actually spent much on research, on travel to go learn the history of fishing, and to see faraway places where the founding fathers did great fishing in the centuries past. They lauded the faithful fishermen of years before who stayed with the club and handed down the idea of fishing.

Further, the fishermen built large printing houses to publish fishing guides. Presses were kept busy day and night to produce materials solely devoted to fishing methods, equipment, and programs to arrange and to encourage meetings to talk about fishing. A speaker's bureau was also provided to schedule speakers on the subject of fishing.

Many who felt the call to be fishermen responded. They were commissioned and sent to fish, however, like the fishermen back home they never fished. Just like the fishermen back home, they engaged in all kinds of other occupations. Some were convinced that they were allergic to fish. So, they made all kinds of equipment to travel here and there to look at fish hatcheries. Some also said that they wanted to be part of the fishing party, but they felt called to furnish fishing resources and premiums.

Others felt that their job was to relate to the fish in a cool and friendly way so the fish would know the difference between good and hypocritical fishermen. Others felt that simply letting the fish know they were nice, land-loving neighbors and how warm and kind they were, was enough to make these fish eventually get themselves caught.

After a stirring meeting on "The Necessity for Fishing," one young fellow stood up, left the meeting and went fishing.

The next day he reported he had caught two outstanding fish. He was honored for his excellent catch and was scheduled to appear on all the prime time fishing-talk shows and drive-time radio shows. His face appeared on the cover of many fishing magazines and book contracts were signed. They scheduled him to visit all the big meetings, as much as possible, to tell how he did it. Crowds always wanted his touch, his autograph, his podcasts …or his son to come talk to them. Countless sought to get closer in different ways. And his own speaking became "in demand" internationally, so he quit his fishing in order to have the time to tell about the experience to the other fishermen. He was also placed on the General Board as a person having considerable experience and there was even talk of eventually making him the president of a reputable fishing college.

Now it's true that many of the fishermen sacrificed and put up with all kinds of difficulties. Some lived near the water and bore the smell of dead fish every day. They received the ridicule of some who made fun of their fishermen's clubs and the fact that they claimed to be fishermen yet never fished. They wondered about those who felt it was of little use to attend the weekly meetings to talk about fishing. After all, were they not following the Master who said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers..?"

Imagine how hurt some felt when one day a person suggested that those who don't catch fish were really not fishermen, no matter how much they claimed to be. Yet it did sound correct. Is a person a fisherman if year after year he never catches a fish? Is one following if he isn't fishing?

"One can love fish but never catch any himself until he goes fishing." ~ Vance Havner

Is there such a thing as Christian discipleship that is non-evangelistic? Uhh, no. According to Jesus Himself, a plain result of following Him is acceptable worship and that we each choose and become fishers of men and of women.

It's not enough just to follow our Lord's life principles, teachings, or His good example, we must follow Him where He's presently going! The Scriptures make His purpose clear.

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which is lost" (Luke 19:10).

"The saddest road to hell is the one that runs under the pulpit, past the Bible, and through the middle of warnings and invitations." ~ J.C. Ryle

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

Doing your part to pray and believe and to biblically witness.. being involved in saving souls is still the master passion of Jesus (the only one who can forgive and save a soul) and He wants to use you in this ministry!

The Main.. of all main things is: Come to Christ the Ultimate Fisher of people (the kind Savior who can forgive any of us). Choose to come into a right relationship with Him as Lord. Yes, into fellowship. Come just as you are (via true repentance and faith), willing to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and Word of God

That’s regeneration, it’s free — no earning it!

Next comes ministry and sanctification for each of us. So, go tell someone all that He’s done for you. Tactfully share His gospel message for the purpose of winning lost people to Him.

“The sinner cannot convert the sinner. Fish will not be fishers.” ~ Charles Spurgeon

"There is no repentance in the grave: There is no conversion after the last breath is drawn. Now is the time to believe in Christ, and to lay hold of eternal life." ~ J.C. Ryle

"For the Scripture says, 'Everyone who believes in him (Jesus Christ) will not be put to shame.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'” Romans 10:11-13 esv

God's mandate for all of us believers in some way: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

Let's consider that some 3.11 billion people in the world live in communities where reborn Christians with the Message and their own story of faith.. make up less than two percent of the population. We want to live balanced and spiritual before a watching world.

13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”

14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

16 But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “LORD, who has believed our message?”

17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Romans 10

Fellowship, with no spiritual compromise -- it's what those in the Lord need.

It's so important to go to church , believer! Every twice-born Christian needs some spiritual friends to relate to, and fellowship with ...
